One couple faced the fallout from this issue after the woman got upset at her fiancé for going to a family dinner and not bringing his family members and more food back to the house afterwards. She then suggested that he wasn't making enough effort to be around her. Because of various life events, they had not been spending as much time together recently, and the woman had declined various social invitations from her partner in the previous weeks.
The man got angry and accused her of being a hypocrite because of how their relationship had operated in the recent past. Neither of them was comfortable after his outburst, and he wondered if he had taken things too far.

Most would argue that quality time is the cornerstone of any healthy, serious relationship. After all, it is difficult to build a life with somebody if you do not spend much of your life around them. Even after the excitement of the initial dating stage has gone away, it is important to make a point of date nights and hanging out, no matter how much your combined schedules might differ. Without that, it can feel like you are in a relationship in name only.
Of course, most couples go through phases where they are going to spend less time with one another, whether that be because of travel, work, or unexpected circumstances. While it doesn't have to spell the end of a connection, it is important to communicate effectively at times like these to make sure that the dynamic is still working for everybody involved. Without that, there is going to be trouble on the horizon.
